brownie club starts next week. what is brownie club, you might ask? its a joint effort between my coworker and i to quit spending so much money on sweets. you know how in the afternoon you just feel like getting up from your desk and getting a coffee and a brownie or something? yeah, well this temptation is hard to pass up where there are roughly 20 places to get brownies in your building. this does not count places i could go to outside my building to get a sweet treat. so we decided that starting next week, each of us will provide sweets for the week to share. this will lead ot a lot of new recipe trials. and a lot of calories consumed. so hopefully a lot of running as well. will keep you posted on the results - maybe pictures to come as well.
yes, i am quite busy. no, i have not abandoned my blog permanently.
work is good, possibly even great? we’ll stick with good for now. its busy, but not “encroaching on my personal time” busy, so that’s good. the commute is really kind of awesome. its about 50-60 minutes each way, which i have spent reading. brushing up on my russian and reading some books i’ve meant to read for a while.
we’ve really only had 2 or 3 weekends here since we moved where we weren’t traveling or having people in from out of town - which is great. its nice to keep busy. this weekend our friends philip and crystal and their baby and dog came to visit so that philip and i could get in our 20 mile training run for the marathon (which is in like a month - yowza). however, it started raining on friday at lunch and didn’t stop until about 3 hours ago, which totally sucks, because running 20 miles in wet socks is a terrible idea. this wasn’t like a sprinkle or “some rain”. we’re talking downpour all weekend. the interstates are closed, and last i heard it was 8+ inches of rain. no flooding on our street, but about a mile down the road is apparently getting the worst of the flooding in chicago. we ran 10. i’ll try for 20 next weekend when it’ll undoubtedly be dryer.
favorite restaurant discoveries to date: cafe 28 and wow bao
