i found out i had been wearing the wrong running shoes, thus my chronic ankle problems. at least that’s what some guy who has run 30 marathons told me. it was the most helpful and informative trip to the shoe store i’ve ever had. not only did i learn a lot, its pretty clear that everyone who works there loves what they do, which was refreshing.

it’s been three weeks (THREE WEEKS) since i’ve been able to take a decent pain-free run and its driving me absolutely crazy.

so goodbye new balance 1023s which are neutral shoes that offer little to no arch support and are too rigid for my supinating, high-arched feet. you will be missed.

parking lots will never be the same again

potty humor to follow. you’ve been warned…

i can no longer walk through parking lots without laughing as a result of something a coworker told me the other day.

i work in the auto industry. said coworker used to work in another department and apparently they would do this thing where you add the word “anal” before different models of cars. at first, i was skeptical. his first example was the cliche “anal probe” that we’ve all heard before. ha ha, very funny. however, upon further discussion, the hilarity ensued:

  • explorer
  • hummer
  • ranger
  • blazer
  • odyssey
  • fiesta
  • jimmy
  • rendezvous
  • freestyle
  • cougar
  • pilot

you get the point. i walked through a parking lot today, nearly falling over in laughter because of the sight of a sportage and a liberty. i apologize. i am certain that after reading this blog post, you will never be the same in a parking lot or watching a car commercial.

heheh–super duty.

i heart modest mouse.

i stayed up last night in order to download the new modest mouse album, we were dead before the ship even sank (or wwdbtses, if you will). you know, the follow up to their last album, gnfpwlbn. not to be confused with the mid 90s punk pop sensation album, sgtwotb. (bonus points* if you know what that means without me telling you the band)

this album is fantastic. i like just about every song enough to listen to them repeatedly. highlights:

It honestly was beautifully done.
We’d tried to hide the daylight from the sun.
Even if we had been sure enough it’s true we really didn’t know.
Even if we knew which way to head, but still we probably wouldn’t go.
-fire it up (this may be the most fantastic thing i’ve ever heard on my car stereo)

It was always worth it, That’s the part I seem to hide
And the busy ant empire, Put up their closing sign
Even as I left Florida
Far enough, far enough, Wasn’t far enough
Couldn’t quite seem to escape myself
-florida

dashboard, missed the boat and parting of the sensory are all worth a listen, or at least a read. they are so good i couldn’t narrow down the lyrics.

wow, as i was writing this i just saw a commercial for this album. big time. go buy it.

cakes and races of 2007

March 8, 2007

i’m not much for resolutions. seems like a set up for failure to me. however, it just so happens that i’ve been doing a few things pretty regularly lately:

1. baking
2. running

so since i’m already doing these things, i figured i’d formalize them into resolution format
thus, in perhaps the only photoset of its kind on flickr, i present:

cakes and races of 2007

www.flickr.com

that’s right. one organized race, and one cake (baked from scratch) every month this year.
so far i’m thinking:

month race cake
january resolution run 5k cookies and cream cake
february nashville predators 5k chocolate stout cake
march tom king 5k bailey’s irish creme cake
april richland creek 5 mile run tbd
may i run for cinco de mayo tbd
june tbd tbd
july i run for 4th of july tbd
august i run for the party tbd
september tbd tbd
october oktoberfest 5k tbd
november tbd tbd
december tbd tbd

as you can see, the cake schedule is wide open, so suggestions are welcome.

wait, i just thought of another resolution: construct more meaningless html tables.

modest mouse | kidz bop | i just died a little on the inside

March 4, 2007

float on is perhaps my favorite modest mouse song and among my favorite songs by any artist. i have listened to it hundreds of times. i turn it up entirely too loudly when it comes on in the car. i have the urge to sing along when it comes on in bars, and i heard it in the bathroom at a mall in st. louis last year and audibly yelped with happiness.

go to itunes, search for “kidz bop float on”. i can’t tell if i am laughing or crying right now.

yes, its true. kidz bop, that album series that has a children’s choir redo pop songs apparently did their disservice to float on last year. so appropriate for those 8-12 year olds out there…

I backed my car into a cop car the other day.
Well he just drove off, sometimes life’s OK.
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh what did I say?
Well you just laughed it off, it was all OK.

And we’ll all float on OK.
And we’ll all float on anyway.

Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam.
It was worth it just to learn from sleight of hand.
Bad news comes don’t you worry even when it lands.
Good news will work its way to all them plans.
We both got fired on exactly the same day,
well, we’ll float on good news is on the way.

And we’ll all float on OK.

Alright already, we’ll all float on.
No, don’t you worry. We’ll all float on.
Alright, I’m ready. We’ll all float on.
even if things end up a bit too heavy.
Don’t worry, we’ll all float on.
Even if things get heavy, we’ll all float on.

maybe next they’ll do black cadillacs?

we were done done done with all the….

hehe. now THAT would be funny.
